RecordsDirectory.com is not a consumer reporting agency as defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), 15 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq. We do not provide consumer reports, and the information available through this site, or through the third-party services we link to, such as TruthFinder, is not a consumer report.
You may not use this site to make decisions about
- Employment: hiring, promotion, reassignment or retention of employees, contractors or volunteers, including household workers such as nannies, babysitters and caregivers.
- Housing: screening tenants or other applicants for rental housing.
- Credit: establishing a person’s eligibility for credit or loans.
- Insurance: underwriting or eligibility for insurance.
- Government benefits or licenses, business transactions initiated by a consumer, or any other purpose covered by the FCRA.
If you need a background check for any of these purposes, you must use a consumer reporting agency that complies with the FCRA, which requires, among other things, the person’s written consent and specific notices.
Permitted personal uses
Public records can be useful for personal, lawful purposes, such as:
- Reconnecting with old friends, classmates or family members.
- Verifying someone’s identity for your own personal safety, for example before meeting a person you met online.
- Learning about public records, such as court, property and vital records, and where they are kept.
- Researching your family history.
Accuracy
Public records can be incomplete, out of date or matched to the wrong person. Do not assume that a record belongs to a particular person without confirming it, and check official government sources when accuracy matters.
Unlawful use
You may not use information found through this site to harass, stalk, threaten or discriminate against anyone, or for any other unlawful purpose. Misuse may subject you to civil and criminal penalties.
